  • How do I prepare for my float and what do I bring ?
There are a few guidelines that we recommend observing in order to maximize your floatation experience. Don’t shave or wax up to 24 hours prior to you float, as this can sting. Eat a small meal 90-minutes prior Avoid caffeine and other stimulates unless you’d like a more “active” float Remove your contacts We have everything that you need to float (apart from a towel, please bring your own), including earplugs, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion and a hair dryer. Feel free to bring your own additional personal care items such as a hair brush and make up etc. All you really need to bring is yourself, a towel and an open mind!
  • What do you wear for floatation therapy ?
Floatation therapy is a strictly private experience. Although you may choose to wear a bathing suit, anything pressing against your skin can provide a distraction during your float. The salt can also effect the fabric. For these reasons, we recommend that you don’t wear any clothing. However, the most important factor in this decision is ensuring your comfort level.
  • Can I drown if I fall asleep ?
Absolutely not. Some people do fall asleep, but the saltwater solution is only 10 inches deep and so buoyant that you will stay afloat plus you’d have to endure quite a bit of stinging in your eyes and bad taste in your mouth. You’re more likely to enter a theta wave brain state that is between wake and sleep. We find that a lot floaters say “I think I fell asleep” which sounds to us like they have been in that amazing in between la la land.
  • What if I’m claustrophobic ?
People with claustrophobia consistently report no problems with floating. Claustrophobia is a rational fear but more about the loss of control than the tight space, and you remain in total control of your experience throughout your float. There aren’t any latches to find, and you can leave the door open or get out at anytime. That said, the time usually goes by faster than you would expect.
  • Can I float if I’m pregnant ?
Absolutely! Pregnant women love to float! Many pregnant women find floating helps relieve the joint pain and inflammation associated with carrying additional baby weight. Floating has been shown to reduce cortisol levels and boost endorphins which may help counteract the hormonal changes associated with pregnancy which can result in insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Anecdotally, many mothers-to-be in the tank have amazing bonding experiences with their unborn baby known as the “mirror effect” where the baby rests peacefully in the womb while the mother rests in a similar womb-like environment which seems to reduce the effects of postpartum depression. Many pregnant women are also prescribed magnesium supplements so soaking in our 30% Epsom salt solution supports that need.
  • Who should not float ?
There are a few conditions that cause float therapy to be unsafe. Float tanks are not safe for individuals with one or more of the following conditions or situations: Skin or respiratory disorders Open wounds New tattoos Serious mental conditions Epilepsy High-risk pregnancy Menstruation Under the influence of any substance Other diseases or conditions These and other conditions make it unsafe to use a float tank. If you have any questions regarding your specific condition, please feel free to reach out to Laura. email : thehyggecorner@gmail.com or message us on the contact us page
  • Is there a right or a wrong way to float ?
Absolutely not! Everyone is different and relaxes in their own way. People worry about getting bored or not being able to control their mind in the float tank so they sometimes ask to listen to music through there whole session, that is fine, however, the deepest state of relaxation is when all stimuli are removed. We suggest focusing on your breath or a meditating until your mind slows down. The position that your body is also important. We’re all built different so we all float different. Some people float with their hands at their sides, some with the hands folded across their chest or abdomen, while some float with them behind or above their heads. We even provide a neck rest for those who feel that they need the extra support. Explore what is best for you. Once you find a comfortable position, we recommend that you relax into this position and simply let it all drift away.
  • How long does floatation therapy take ?
When you first begin using float therapy, we recommend sticking with a 60 or 90 minute float session. This is adequate time to relax while becoming accustomed to float therapy. Once you have been using float therapy for a while, you may decide to increase your float time to 2 or even 3 hours each session. It is important to use float therapy more than once as the relaxing benefits are cumulative! Oftentimes, we find that first-time users are a bit on edge during their first visit. Returning a second time allows them to fully experience every benefit that float therapy provides.
  • Are floatation tanks safe ?
Yes! Float tanks are incredibly safe for the majority of individuals. The high salt content in the water serves many purposes. Because of the high concentration of salt, it is nearly impossible to drown in a float tank. Additionally, you will be floating in only 10 inches of water. Many first time visitors are concerned about the cleanliness of float therapy. After each session, the water in the tank goes through a thorough sterilization and sanitation process. This ensures that the water is clean and completely safe for each guest during their float.
  • Is it okay to float if I just recently coloured my hair ?
There is no risk to your hair or our float tank if you use permanent dyes or highlights. We do ask for you that you wait a week before you float after having your hair coloured, If you use colourful temporary dyes, we ask that you do not float until it runs totally clear in the shower as it can tint the solution and stain the fiberglass.
  • Will I get wrinkly ? Is it possible to get dehydrated from soaking for so long ?
No. You can float for hours and never prune or become dehydrated. The Epsom salt acts as a regulator for water and inhibits the water from saturating in the skin.
  • Can more than one person float in a tank at a time ?
No, our float is a one person pod.
  • How should I prepare for my cold plunge ?
We strongly recommend getting your body accustomed to cold water prior to your session by taking cold showers for at least 30 seconds daily in the week leading up to your session. If you haven’t been used to exposing yourself to the cold you may waste the session by not being able to stay as long as you expect. Two minutes is a good target if you are new to cold water exposures.
  • Can anyone undergo cold water therapy ?
Cold water therapy is generally safe for healthy individual's, but those with underlying health conditions should consult a medical professional.
  • What happens when I am having my cold water therapy ?
In preparation before you enter the water we recommend that you practice some deep breathing techniques. Please do NOT use the Wim Hof Method breathing technique whilst in the water. A member of staff will be with you to help you prepare for your cold exposure and for your safety. It is recommend after you exit the water that you spend at least one minute moving your body in whatever feels best for you in order to avoid a secondary drop in temperature. If you require any extra help or advice on what to do, please ask a member of staff.
  • Who cannot use the cold plunge ?
Cold water therapy can be dangerous and can cause symptoms of shock in the body. You are NOT permitted to use the facility if you are suffering from any cardiovascular issues without first consulting a medical professional. It is NOT permitted for use if you are currently pregnant. We do not allow minors under the age of 18 to use the cold plunge. You must not use this facility if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It is of paramount importance that you feel as well as is normal for you. If you feel unwell prior to a session you should reschedule.
  • How long is a cold water session ?
Your sessions are 30 minutes in duration to allow time to change, prepare to go into the water and also to warm up afterwards. We do not recommend staying in the water for longer than 10 minutes as the temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius and in doing so you could cause hypothermia. For your first few sessions, 2 minutes is recommended in the water, this will still give you the maximum benefit of the therapy.
  • Do I need to bring anything with me ?
    Just a towel and swimwear.
  • What should I wear ?
Swimwear is required for use of the cold plunge.
  • How many people can fit in your cold plunge?
Our cold plunge can only be used by one person at a time.

  • Is the infrared sauna safe ?

You should allow an hour. Most sauna programs are between 30 - 40 minutes, an hour will allow changing time.
  • What do I wear in the infrared sauna ?
